InnBrew: The Brewers Convention, the only one of its kind in the country, took place in parallel and simultaneously with the Barcelona Beer Festival, consolidated in Barcelona, and was held in Hall 2 of Fira de Barcelona, in Montjuïc, on 22nd and 23rd March 2024.
More than 1,000 unique professional attendees, including both hoteliers and brewers, were able to visit the 35 stands + sponsors of InnShow, follow in person the 35 presentations, round tables and InnTalks/InnMeet workshops given by nearly 40 personalities from the beer sector, as well as participate in the scheduled or spontaneous meetings in the KeyKegInnMeetArea.
On Friday 22nd March and Saturday 23rd March, InnBrew: The Brewers Convention held its 4th edition as an event in its own right, in Hall 2 of Fira de Barcelona, in Montjuïc. It was held in the same space and at the same time as the Barcelona Beer Festival, a consolidated and favourite format for all participants, as well as for the organisation. Both events brought together a total of 15,000 unique registered entries, of which more than a thousand were accredited professionals. Throughout the two days, activities were developed to promote meetings, training, exchange, reflection and business, and where it is worth highlighting an opening ceremony with a fantastic breakfast courtesy of HopsComapany that served to break the ice, presentations and start working. Then, within the framework of the specific events dedicated to the Hospitality and Gastronomy, two high-level presentations led by chefs Marc Puig-Pey (Fundació Alícia, El Bulli) and Jordi Vilà (Alkimia and menu design at Moritz), plus a ShowCoocking by COMAS and its Caliu project with chef Xavi Corominas, gave way to the most innovative conferences aimed at breweries and their demands.
It is worth highlighting the large number of professionals who attended the presentations in the InnTalks auditorium in the central space, which was always full. Themes of interest to breweries were developed, responding to problems detected by the organisation during its daily work and constant contact with the country’s professionals, and the solutions provided by Antonio Rojas and Javier Ramiro in Ekonoke and indoor hops: sustainability and climate resilience for the green gold of beer, Roger Plata and his talk Consum d’aigua en petites cerveseries catalanes, or Julián Varga with Convierte tu Residuo en un Superalimento, to give some examples, should be highlighted. The more technical presentations, as always, were given on Saturday morning by the AETCM Association and the collaboration of the ESCYM Foundation, whom we would like to thank for their great collaboration and contribution.
Saturday afternoon completed the presentations with 2 round tables, moderated by Joan Villar-i-Martí @birraire, who presented two luxury panels to reflect on two major themes of the sector, entitled ‘Ensanche: keys to attracting new audiences through marketing and communication‘ and ‘The Flight of the Aspidistra: measures and initiatives to strengthen the sector from the factory‘, where both obtained numerous contributions and debate among attendees and speakers.
Friday’s gathering of professional attendees was remarkable, culminating in the Awards Ceremony of the Barcelona Beer Challenge International Awards 2024: the most emotional moment was the unveiling of the awards, which in addition to awarding 3 medals (gold, silver and bronze, which, thanks to NOMOQ, were transformed into cans of beer) in 58 categories (one of them, the Pacífic Beer sponsored by Agronet Brewing), highlighted the following awards: The Best Brewery Award, which went to Basqueland Brewing, the Hernani brewery that had already won in two editions, the Best New Brewery Award, for the Italian brewery Birra Puddu, the Molina For Brewers Innovation Award went to the French brewery Les Intenables with its beer Rhubarbe and the Steve Huxley Award for Professional Brewing Career went to Montse Virgili, from the Ales Agullons project and organiser of the Mostra de Mediona, being the first woman to receive this prestigious and meritorious award.
Attitude and joy:
InnBrew: The Brewers Convention 2024 edition was presented as the most joyful and professional, the most innovative and in a more ambitious format than ever, looking for this enclave, with the numbers of attendees received, to be the definitive location for this most important annual event of the brewing sector at national and international level.
